Learning takes place across a nearly 4 acre campus. The campus has many resources at its disposal. Books and materials covering different training topics are readily available and others are ordered to fit the unique learning needs of the student as the student progresses through the program. Videotapes are accessed through the TV in the classroom and on-line learning occurs in the computer area.
The Employment Services Training Center also uses space at the Waiahole Nursery & Garden Center. Below a group of students in the Office Skills program assembles packets for an upcoming Aquaponic Seminar. Their tasks included copying the material, collating and punching the papers, putting the training information into the binders and affixing labels to the inside and front covers.
In Hawaii, often the outdoors is the best classroom. Here a group of students learning maintenance skills are helping out with our adopt the park project. Waiahole Nursery & Garden Center officially adopted Waiahole Beach Park at the end of 2015.
At other times, classes meet outdoors on the lanai. Sometimes a bit distracting, but definitely motivating!
The nearly 4-acre campus offers plenty of room for all 13 of our career path programs to be going on at once. Below shows the dog training program in action. Dr. Dukes and her Loveland Academy staff bred, raised and trained Labrador Retrievers to serve as therapy dogs for children with autism for 13 years.
Aquaponics Instruction takes place in the outdoor learning center and in the aquaponics growing area, itself.
Floral design classes take place in the floral design center.
Lawn Maintenance, landscape installation and both residential and commercial gardening training takes place on our beautiful property by the ocean across from Waiahole beach park in front of Chinaman's Hat.
Child care training and domestic housekeeping training takes place At Marcus House, the name of our facility, named after one of Loveland Academy's previous residential clients.
