LOVELAND ACADEMY HAWAII
(Autism and Special needs)

WELCOME
Loveland Academy is a Honolulu privately owned
Transdisciplinary Center dedicated to excellence in teaching
and the development and implementation of clinical and
therapeutic methodologies for the diagnosis and treatment of
neurodevelopment disorders in children.
"Children with learning differences are only handicapped by
us - by a system which fails to provide them with access to an
appropriate education that meets their learning needs."
(Dr. Maria Montessori)
Loveland Academy’s mission is to provide an array of
state of the art, research based, child and family centered,
culturally sensitive therapeutic and educational services
targeting the biological, psychological, educational, social
and emotional needs of children.
Our Philosopy
Is to "turn kids onto learning" by helping them discover, then
utilize their strenghts and interest, to gain the necessary skills
and knowledge to live as productive, and enjoyable, a life as
possible.
The overall goal of Loveland Academy is to integrate the
best aspects of education, with the best practices of
therapeutic treatment into a cohesive package for children
who need 1:1 attention in the areas of intensive behavioral
teaching, positive behavior management, direct therapy to
increase cognitive, social, emotional, play and communication
skills.
The program seeks to support increased global functioning
through the development of strong attention skills, strong
social skills, self monitoring, self regulation and coping
strategies that allow children to move to less restrictive
environments over time.
"Recent studies now suggest that if intensive behavior
modification is started early enough, before age four or five,
perhaps as many as 50 percent of autistic children may be
able to improve sufficiently to attend public schools with
normal peers, and to have a reasonably bright outlook for the
future."
(Dr. Bernard Rimland)
Our Location
Loveland Academy is conveniently located in the Makiki area,
between the University of Hawaii and downtown Honolulu. The
campus is easily accessed by the H-1 Freeway in both
directions.
The school is housed in two buildings facing a central
courtyard. Currently there are 6 classrooms in addition to
rooms dedicated to Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy,
Mental Health Therapy, Art and Music. The outside play area
is set up to maximize social interaction and developmental
play skills.
"Our task... is not to fix the blame for the past, but to fix the
course for the future."
(John F. Kennedy)
